Do your kids grind their teeth?

“My child grinds his teeth when sleeping – sometimes so loud it wakes us up. Is this normal?” The answer is “Yes” and maybe “No.” “Yes” - grinding is a normal response to your child’s growing/changing dentition (arrangement or condition of the teeth), and the majority of children outgrow it by the time the permanent teeth erupt. So generally speaking, you needn’t be concerned. But, grinding could also be a response to OSA – Obstructive Sleep Apnea. This means, your child is having breathing problems while sleeping. Time For A Cleaning?

Words of wisdom from our Hygienist! Ever wonder why we get our teeth cleaned every 6 months? You may be thinking "well, it's because that's what my insurance covers and I want to get my money’s worth from them!" or maybe you're thinking "I want white teeth and fresh breath". Either way, the answer lies somewhere in the middle, plus more. The real reason it's recommended to have your teeth cleaned at least 2x a year has many answers. Here are my top 3. Broken Tooth

Usually when a tooth breaks off at the level of the gums, the only option is to extract it and then replace it with an implant or a bridge.  Both of these options are expensive.  If the root is in good shape and long enough, a procedure called P.E.T. (Partial Extraction Technique) may work to save the tooth at a much lower fee.  When feasible, the tooth is loosened, pulled partly out and sutured in place.  After 8-12 weeks of healing, a root canal is performed and then it is ready for a crown.  If you have a broken tooth - call us to find out if this procedure could benefit you. This tooth was broken.  You can see that...

Caught Up In the Daily Grind

Tooth grinding, bruxism, clenching, gnashing of teeth - problems that we seem to see more and more at the office these days.  Sometimes these symptoms are recognized by the patient.  They notice things like chipped/worn teeth or even soreness in the jaws and headaches.  Sometimes family members or a spouse will point out when someone is grinding their teeth.  Other times the dentist is the one to point out the signs and symptoms.  Is this a problem that needs to be fixed?  If so, how is it best fixed? Excessive clenching and grinding can eventually wear teeth to a point they cannot be restored, or the fix becomes very expensive.  Teeth can even become so loose from the abuse that...
